The 2012 IIHF WJC is hosted in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta by Hockey Canada.
The top eight countries at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship and the top two countries at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship, Division I will participate in the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship.
The 10 teams are divided into two, five-team groups for the preliminary round, based on where they finished during the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship (Top Division and Division I); the groups are:

Each team will play a game against each team within their group; the winner of each group will advance directly to the semifinals; teams finishing second and third in their groups will proceed to the quarter-finals; teams finishing fourth and fifth in their groups will proceed to the relegation round; the winner of each semifinal will move onto the gold medal game, while the losers will play in the bronze medal game.
All 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship Games will air only on The Team 1260.
