Dustin Nielson's Predictions

Posted By: The Team 1260 · 5/30/2012 7:36:00 PM
Ryan Murray - Should the Oilers be taking Nail Yakupov, yup. Will they? I'm just not too sure about it. I hear too many things about so-and-so liking Ryan Murray, the scouting staff apparently loves Murray. I've heard that Kevin Lowe is a big fan of Griffin Reinhart. What am I not hearing?? That a bunch of the staff really like Nail Yakupov. That concerns me and it's the reason I've got Murray going first overall. If this is the way it turns out for the Oilers it will be a mistake. Brain says go with Yakupov, but my gut keeps saying they won't. Not sure if you've seen my gut, but it's significant.
(TRADE ALERT) Nail Yakupov - The Toronto Maple Leafs trade up to get the second overall pick with Yakupov still on the board. Just when we thought Brian Burke couldn't possibly be any dumber he goes and totally redeems himself by moving up to get Yakupov.
Alex Galchenyuk - Better than average size and a boat load of skill or atleast the potential to provide a boat load of skill. If he was healthy all season he may have gone first overall.
Morgan Rielly - The New York Islanders have some very nice skilled forwards, but who is suppose to move the puck to them in the future. The answer is Morgan Rielly.
(TRADE ALERT) Filip Forsberg - The Blue Jackets are apparently pretty high on Forsberg, so if they can move down to 5 and still get him it seems like a smart move to me.
Griffin Reinhart - His offensive upside at the NHL doesn't get me excited but he is a very good all-round defenseman. Once he figures out how to be mean on a regular basis he will be a force.
Teuvo Teravainen - The Wild have gone to the small finish foward recently and got themselves one of the best players not in the NHL with Mikael Granlund. Why not try to do it again?
Radek Faksa - They've gone down the Kitchener Rangers road before with Jeff Skinner. They could also use a little bit of help down the middle.
Jacob Trouba - This guy is a player that really grew on me after watching him at the World Juniors. Seems to already have a complete game to work with. Nice pick here for the Jets.
Mat Dumba - They've got Victor Hedman to anchor the blueline. Now they bring in the wild card to really give it some jump. I think Hedman and Dumba would be a nice 1-2 punch back there.
Mikael Grigorenko - Another skiled forward that the Capitals can attempt to suck the life out of.
Olli Maatta - One of the most improved players in the entire draft. Smooth move by the Sabres as the sit around and watch 11 other teams pass on the Fin.
Cody Ceci - Seems to be a guy that doesn't get enough hype for what he brings to the table. Those types of players are also known as steals and the Stars may get one here.
Derrick Pouliot - Flames scouts know exactly what Pouliot brings to the table. Mostly because they've been drooling during the games watching Sven Bartschi play. Flames could certainly use a puck moving d-man in their system. If I was picking he wouldn't go this high, but I'm not, the Flames are.
Zemgus Girgensons - One thing the Ottawa Senators are lacking right now? Latvians. Girgensons fills that need.

Hampus Lindholm - The Capitals have gone to Sweden in the past with Backstrom and Johansson. Those picks have seemed to work out. Why not go back with a guy who absolutely came out of nowhere this year.

Matt Finn - Best player left on the board at this point. This will be the first time the Sharks have picked in the opening round since 2007 when they drafter Logan Couture and Nick Petrecki.

Dalton Thrower - The Hawks have been successful with WHL defensemen in the past. See: Keith and Seabrook. They go to Saskatoon this time around to pick Thrower a little bit earlier than we all expected.

Brandan Gaunce - The Lightning can't believe that Gaunce is still available. Actually by that I mean I can't believe I don't have him higher, would be pretty surprised if slips lower than this.

Malcom Subban - Not sure if you are aware but goaltending has been a weak spot with the Flyers for a while now. Subban won't solve that now, but he might in the future.

Tom Wilson - One of the true power-forwards in the draft. They appear to be in decent shape in almost all positions so why not draft a guy similiar to the Kassian kid that you traded just prior to the deadline.
Tomas Hertl - Has good size and put up some nice offensive numbers overseas this season. The Penguins search for offensive help on the wings won't be solved with Hertl, but he could help.
Slater Koekoek - Best defenseman left in the draft at this point. Atleast in my opinion. Also contemplated putting Brady Skjei in this spot.

Martin Frk - A little bit of a risk vs reward here for the Bruins but how many offensive threats do they have in the system? Seguin and? Frk atleast has the potential to eventually become one. Note: I wasn't counting Dougie Hamilton because he's a d-man.

Nicolas Kerdiles - The Blues have pretty nice depth at all positions, so it's probably just a matter of who ever is the best player left. We'll go with Kerdiles here.
Henrik Samuelsson - Canucks have never shied away from Swedes. They have obviously been trying to get a little nastier with the Kassian trade. Samuelsson brings that ability to cross the line and some pretty nice hands around the net as well.
Sebastian Collberg - The did ok with Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Why not a forward.
Stefan Matteau - Probably a lame pick on part, the easy way out. That Good Job, Good Effort Kid would be saying Good Job, Good Effort right now.
Oscar Dansk - Does anyone know who is going to take over for Martin Brodeur? Dansk might not be the answer but atleast it gives them some hope?
Brady Skjei - Kings attempt to once again redeem themselves for the Thomas Hickey pick.
